David L. Caraway, M.D., Ph.D. assumed the Chief Medical Officer position at Nevro Corp. in Redwood City, CA. on April 1, 2014. Nevro, is a global, growth stage medical device company focused on developing innovative, evidence based solutions for the treatment of chronic medical conditions.
Dr. Caraway has diverse strategic responsibilities including providing direction and support of the design, development, and adoption of cutting-edge therapies that aim to advance the field of neuromodulation. He also represents Nevro’s mission and values in directing a medical affairs function with global responsibility for generating and providing medical and scientific information on Nevro’s products.
Prior to coming to Nevro, Dr. Caraway founded The Center for Pain Relief, Tri-State, L.L.C. providing state-of-the-art comprehensive, multidisciplinary pain management services, with an emphasis on interventional pain medicine and as center of excellence for advanced neuromodulation therapies.
Dr. Caraway received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University Of Virginia School Of Engineering, an M.D. from the University Of Virginia School Of Medicine and a Ph.D. in Biophysics from the University of Virginia Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. He also received post-graduate training in anesthesiology and pain management from the University of Virginia and is certified by the American Board Anesthesiology.
Dr. Caraway maintained an active clinical and research practice for over 20 years and has held leadership positions in the North American Neuromodulation Society receiving the Distinguished Service Award in 2014 and the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians. Dr. Caraway has served as a consultant to numerous companies to further innovation, educate physicians, develop research initiatives and deploy leading edge medical technologies. As a nationally recognized expert in the treatment of chronic pain, he has published extensively and lectures regionally, nationally and internationally in the field of Neuromodulation and Interventional Pain Medicine. Dr. Caraway has served as a representative to the American Medical Association (AMA)/Specialty Society RVS Update Committee (RUC) and has extensive experience in clinical trial design and regulatory compliance.
